Electricity storage systems as a supplement to the photovoltaic system
A Viessmann photovoltaic system can generate enough electricity to supply a family of four for an entire year. The main problem here, however, is that the system primarily provides electrical energy when most of the inhabitants of a household are not at home; for example, during the midday hours. If no connected consumer is active or if the connected devices cannot fully consume the electricity, the electricity is fed into the public grid.
In recent years, however, the corresponding feed-in tariffs have steadily declined. At the same time, the average price of electricity has risen. Thus, there is a lot to be said for increasing self-consumption. To achieve this, an electricity storage system helps. Viessmann has therefore launched the Vitocharge and Vitocharge HS. These battery storage systems store the electricity generated during the day and make it available as needed.

Power from the sun
Viessmann power storage units increase consumption on site of the energy you generate and improve the efficiency of the photovoltaic system. The system will charge the power storage unit when the home is not calling for power. When required, this power is used, for example for driving electrical appliances. If the power storage unit is fully charged and no consumers are connected, excess power will be exported into the grid and remunerated accordingly.
The storage process briefly explained
The functional principle is basically quite simple. The PV battery storage system stores the electrical energy, similar to a rechargeable battery, until a demand arises in the household and passes it on to the connected consumers.
In detail, this means that when the sun's rays hit the photovoltaic modules, they are converted into direct current. However, this cannot be used in the household. Therefore, an inverter is interposed here, which converts the direct current into alternating current. If there are no consumers for this electricity in the house, the electricity storage system comes into play. The Vitocharge lithium-ion batteries from Viessmann convert the electrical energy into chemical energy. When it comes to discharging, this process is reversed.
Important: When discharging, the entire solar power storage unit is never discharged. A distinction is made between the so-called storage and useful capacity. We also specify this as the depth of discharge. The Vitocharge products use up to 80 percent of the storage tank.
If the electricity storage unit is charged and no consumer is connected or active, the electricity is fed into the public grid. The remuneration is regulated by the Renewable Energy Sources Act.
What distinguishes the Viessmann photovoltaic storage systems?
PV storage closes the gap between supply and demand. this increases self-consumption and thus also reduces energy costs. The electricity generated can be used much more efficiently. Viessmann storage systems also ensure greater independence from energy suppliers and also relieve the strain on the power grid.
With our Vitocharge product group, we offer lithium-ion battery storage systems with high efficiency and a long service life. The models have a service life of up to 20 years or up to 7,000 charging cycles. On average, you can expect one charge cycle per day. The Vitocharge and Vitocharge HS batteries can be connected in parallel. This allows flexible storage sizes and perfect adaptation to your individual power requirements.
In addition, both variants are suitable for both grid-parallel and grid-substitute operation. This means that Viessmann Vitocharge can run in parallel with the power supply from the public grid as well as supply the most important consumers in the event of a power failure.
